Keeping your wardrobe organised

Updated: Apr 9, 2019

Spring is very nearly upon us and for many this is a time to freshen up and sort out their lives. Whether you want to give things to charity, pass them on to a friend or they really just need to go in the bin - we can help you get started with organising your wardrobe!

Get all your clothes and organise them into piles

Before the start of a new season I like to lay all my clothes out in different piles and see how much I have of everything. It often turns out I'm a bit of a pyjama hoarder and so I usually end up throwing some away. If I find there are clothes that I haven't worn much and don't intend on wearing again I'll bag them up and send them to the charity shop.

Put the stuff you don't need in vacuum bags

The last thing you want to see when spring and summer roll around is your thick woolly jumpers to remind you of the cold and dark winter evenings. Why not put them into a vacuum bag and suck the air out, so they're neat and tidy and packed away nice and small so can be stored in the bottom of your wardrobe until the colder weather rolls around again. Another top tip is to put in a scented tumble dryer sheet in the bag before you vacuum it, meaning when winter does roll around your clothes are already smelling fresh and not like a plastic bag.

Short on drawer space?

The space I have for clothes is very split up in my university house; I have a chest of drawers in my bedroom but two wardrobes in my office. Originally I had planned to put some clothes like t-shirts in my drawers and then others hanging up in my wardrobe. After a week or so I knew this wasn't going to work having to walk between the two rooms just having to get dressed. I got a hanging wardrobe organiser from IKEA, it attaches to the rail with velcro and hangs down. I like to put folded t-shirts and those kind of things in there.

Everything needs its space.

I'm one for losing things like socks or pants so I got these drawer organisers, again, from IKEA, they pop up and divide your drawers into little compartments. I also use these in the hanging wardrobe tidy above.
