Whether you're living on your own in a small student room, living with friends in your first house or you've just bought a home, you'll want it to smell fresh and homely! I've found when you move into a rented house it can sometimes smell quite musky, making you feel like its unclean. So here are my top ways of making your house smell fresh...
Plug in air fresheners
I've used these for all three years of university and my room is never without one. I personally like the 3-in-1 plug ins as it means your room is always smelling different. My favourite smells are the Christmas ones!
Candles

Nothing beats the warming glow and soft smell of a candle. My favourites are usually from Yankee Candle but these can sometimes be a bit pricey (which isn't exactly ideal). My next favourite is Ikea, they have a wide range of smells but I do sometimes find they're quite smokey when you blow them out. If you're renting be sure to check in your tenancy agreement that you can have candles, some landlords may prefer for you to not use them.
Zoflora
So, if you follow Mrs Hinch on Instagram (and if you love cleaning then you should be) then you'll know what Zoflora is.
You can clean surfaces with it, you can clean your cleaning cloths with it. I personally love to clean the floors with it. I just pop a a couple of capfuls in my mop and mix with warm water.
Now I would also like to mention my amazing mop at this point, it has a little water container attached that you fill with your cleaning product and water and then you attach it to the mop so you spray as you go! Saves having to carry around a big bucket of water with you. You can also stick the cleaning pad on the bottom into the wash when it needs it. I got mine from Dunelm.
Reed diffuser

These add a very subtle smell to a room. You notice them most when you're walking past the bottle as its wafts the smell around the room. If you were worried about pets or small children getting to them and knocking them over you can pop them on a high shelf and they do an equally good job. My favourite smell has been Colony's Coastal Breeze.
