Make your own bath bombs at home

Updated: Apr 9, 2019

Everyone loves a bath bomb, especially at this cold time of year, but when retailers charge so much for them, it can be hard to relax while you're using it. Here is a step-by-step tutorial to make your own, which is far more cost effective! As we approach Christmas, maybe you could add some festive smells and give them to someone as a heartfelt, handmade gift.

Makes 5.

You will need:

½ a cup of Epsom salts

½ of citric acid

1 cup of baking soda

½ cup of cornflour

2 tablespoons of oil

2 tablespoons of food colouring

1 tablespoon of water

2 teaspoons Edible/biodegradable glitter (optional)

Bath bomb/soap moulds

How to make:

1. In a bowl mix together the dry ingredients until fully combined (be careful of the citric acid as it it can eat into marble countertops).

2. Once the dry ingredients are fully combined in a separate bowl mix together all the wet ingredients.

3. Slowly add the wet ingredients into the dry making sure to constantly mix to avoid your bath bomb activating early.

4. When your mixture looks like thick sand (as pictured) then you’re ready to press it into the moulds.

5. Just to make it easier later I would recommend placing a strip of clingfilm in the mould and up the sides of your moulds if you're using one like mine, as it makes it easier to get them out later.

6. Fill the mould with the mixture and press down to with the base of a glass until packed in tight, continue with this until the mould is full to the brim.

7. Leave for 24 hours.

8. When ready, lift the bath bombs out using the clingfilm and there we go you have your

own bath bomb!

9. Throw it under a running tap to mix it into your bath or wait for the bath to be full and drop it in to see it fizz.
